Since qualifying as a Personal trainer/gym instructor and also powerlifting coaching in September I have currently been looking to further improve my qualifications and widen my clientele. I scanned and researched the market to find what was lacking in my region and how I can improve fitness within my community.
For me the future with fitness is the youth of today our children. I personally believe kids/children fitness is not what it use to be and theses days technology has taken over which is keeping them in. For myself as a parent I ask my daughter what fitness she is doing at primary school level and the feedback I am getting is shocking really. It’s Meant to be twice a week for an hour per session. Sometimes they do it and sometimes they don’t depend if the correct teacher is inn. My thoughts are they should be doing it every day !!
So to that end the answer was right there !
In October I signed upto level 2 kids fitness course qualification. As we are now dealing with children it is completely a different qualification to teaching/training adults. There body’s are still developing/growing, they have a different mindset and attention span and also it may take them a little long to grasp things.
Over the past 4 months I have been working my way through all the course work, endless hours on my laptop – and I am not the quickest at typing ! That a side I still ploughed through it all and learnt so much while studying for this qualification. On completion of the course work I also had to plan and carry out two practical training sessions :
A one to one within a gym conducting the warmup, main exercises and also Cool down. For a child aged 5-15.
Also a group session with a minimum of 4 children aged 5-15 carrying out warmups, main exercises and the cool down.
The one to one was conducting with a friends of mines son – Acer aged 12. A bright young lad bursting with energy and very strong too. From start to finish he worked extremely hard and gave 100% effort! All the exercises were conducted with correct attitude and I was very impressed with his personal knowledge and also willing to learn.

The group session I seriously had to put a lot of thought into it. Main things which I had to consider: type of venue, children’s ages and abilities, type of exercises, equipment and also the health and safety side of things. A good friend of mines girlfriend is a PE teacher so I spoke to her about all of the above and she guided and steered me in the right direction. So after 3/4 weeks of planning sourcing my own kit, booking the local village hall and Louise drafting 4 children inn from the local primary school we conducted the session.
I decided to go down the circuit style bootcamp avenue due to my previous roots of being a royal marine. I had planned a warmup, main exercises (circuit style stations) followed by an assault course and to finish with the cool down. All four of these children yet at again gave 100% on everything I threw at them and not one of them moaned! They all had fun and worked extremely hard. I was seriously impressed and I’m sure the parents were all proud of them . An absolute pleasure working with all these children.

All my course work and practical assessment videos have now been submitted and it’s just awaiting game to see if I have passed.
Moving forward and if I am successful I will branch out into the children’s fitness sector and get things set up for children’s boot camps and do my very best to get kids back into fitness. It’s been a massive learning curve but also a great one and I have learnt so many valuable things along the way. Thanks to all the parents of the children who helped me and also thanks to Louise and Steve for the guidance and assistance along the way.
